'Romantic Love' and 'Passionate Love' are completely different a leading researcher at the University of California, Santa Barbara says. Romantic love is intense, engaging and sexual just like passionate love, but it does not have all of the negative traits such as uncertainty and anxiety that come with the often obsessive nature of passionate love.

A study of 6070 individuals in short and long-term relationships was carried out to see if they were more satisfied with romantic love. The study included both students between the ages of 20 - 23 and middle aged couples in long and short term relationships.

Those who felt they were in romantic love relationships were more satisfied in both short and long-term relationships, whilst those in passionate love engagements felt satisfied purely in the short term.
